Workshop on Smart Irrigation
The 1st Pak-German Smart Irrigation workshop held on 12th May, 2016; was a one day event. It was part of a smart water management project that was an effort of NED University of Engineering and Technology, RCAI in collaboration with University of Kaiserslautern and German Centre of Artificial Intelligence. Started with the recitation of Holy Quran. The Chairman of CIS department, Dr. Shehzad Hasan, stated the importance of irrigation system. A brief intro of stats and irrigation problems faced by Pakistan and all over the world was given by Dr. Saad Ahmed Qazi, dean of Electrical & Computer Engineering. According to him, if different universities across the country work in collaboration only then we can come up with a better solution. Followed by Dr. Muhammad Afzal Haque, the Vice chancellor of NED University, who stated what actually Smart Irrigation is.
Irrigation water is a very precious resource and with passage of time decline in this resource has been expected due to rapid climate changes. Therefore efficient utilization of irrigation water has become extremely essential by considering future situations and realizing importance of this precious resource. Researchers and scientists can find ways for efficient utilization of water and even they can propose solutions for complete implementation of smart irrigation systems. This Workshop has been organized to bring together researchers and scientists engaged in this interdisciplinary work and provide a forum for discussion and presenting new methods and results. Contributions are solicited for original research work illuminating the role of natural sciences and technology in Smart Irrigation. see images
